The Filming
Our filming went well but we had to change the location at the last minuet due to bad weather. The new location was a barn witch has worked well for what we needed. We managed to shoot a massive 40 minutes of footage meaning we probably wont have to shoot again. Our editing i well on its way with most of the lip sinking done. I also have some photo of our filming witch will be uploaded in a few days.

Pitch ( Clearer final one ) Pt 2
For the second half of our video we are going to contrast it to the traditional indie video. Filling it it with aspects of Dubstep videos and hard thrashing rock ones. We plan to smash up some of the equipment were using to create a high energetic video and then at the end of the video play with the broken instruments like the video below.
Red Hot Chili Peppers- Scar Tissue
There is not a real storyline to our video but the lyrics " My neighbours house is burning down" we thought we could have a fire to emphasise the lyrics a bit more .

Pitch ( Clearer final one )
Ok so after we did our peer assessement it bacame clear to us that people couldnt rele grast our initial pitch so i am going to write it up again.
The start our video off with it is going to be a traditional indie video such as closeups of the instruments and the band. below is a few shots of what i feel the start of our video will look like.

Furthur music video analysis
Kode9 & The spaceape 9 Samurai
This video was created for the artists by some Art students and is one of the reasons i picked this music video to analyse. The video is very simple yet very effective. Dark eerie sillhouettes of objects are seen all throughout the video. This goes along well with the song and the other aspects of the video as alltogether it has a very dark feel
Here is an example of the sillhouettes seen throughout the video . Most of the filming is doen from either a closeup or an extremecloseup. i feel this works well as you can see the objects well and makes it somewhat scarier and darker than if the objects were smaller.
Alot of time in the video the images are translated on to the otherside of the shot, showing two of the same thing happening next to eachother, i feel this adds to the emphasism of what the video is trying to portray. The video is very abstract at the same time and it is hard to see how they related it to the actual song. But as our group is doing we feel this would work well. Another thing i noticed about the video is that there is alot of jerky movements to me this portrays a scence of the unknown and mabe portraying a bit of fear through this.
Another thing i realy liked about the video and i was thinking of incorporationg into ours was the movement of the objects in the video being intime with the music i think this makes the video much more eyecatching and epic.
So overeall i think we can take alot from this video to help us to film ours.

Final locations
Ok so after alot of thought and some change of our final idea we decided to film in lode. we decided this as there is many empty feilds and big locations which i feel will be great for filming in. Another goood point is as will lives there we have a place to store equipment and go back to if we need to plan a shot more or have a chat about how we want the shot to go.
There is alot of forest areas in Lode which we thought would be a good place for the high energy part of our video. It is fairly secluded so there wont be any interfeirence by people and we have the freedom to make the music video as we feel .
The Lyrics in the chourus go
" My neighbours house is burning down"
We saw this as we could incorporate a small fire to emphasise the lyrics .

This video is called Windowlicker the artist is Richard D James (Aphex Twin). It is a unusual video this is the reason for its greatness and was nominated best music video at the brit awards 2000. The video is a ten-minute long parody of contemporary American gangsta hip-hop music videos. In the video, two foul-mouthed young men (a Latino and an African American) in Los Angeles are window-shopping for prostitutes. The opening is just like a typical American thriller.
suddenly, a ridiculously long white limousine crashes into the two men in a black Mazda (MX5) convertible, and a "pimped-out" Richard D. James, displaying a surreal amount of wealth and power, emerges with his signature fixed grin. The two women, among others, accompany James in his limousine while their faces morph into James's own likeness.
I really like this video in the way that it is very different to normal music videos.

Feedback from our blog
We got our feedback sheet from the rest of our group. They were mostly positive but from looking at other peoples blogs i see there is much work that can be done to improve ours. I have decided to do work at home, look at other peoples blogs and use their outline to improve ours and hopefully increase our final mark for planning.
We got an average mark of around 17 which is in the profficiant planning section, our aim is to get it into the excellent planning stage.
Main things we need to do
- write up the final idea more effectively
- pictures of locations
- improve call sheet
- music video analysis
- things that are going well or ar not going well.
- props, mise en scene etc....
look at other blogs and use them to help improve ours.

Target audience
Our target audience is for people the same age as us being 17-18. We feel this is a good auidience to target as we know what they like or are into meaning we can make our video more appealing. With our initial ideas we also feel it would apply to people who are into their indie music /or jsut simply liked a goood high energy music video.

homework - tool-sober
sober is the song from a band called tool. sober was one of there headlining songs for there album called undertow. tool have been around since 1990 and have made 4 main albums.
the video works on the storyline of a plasticine (druggie) having to get his hit from a box. the story follows him as he loses his box when he is high and he has to try and find it. it reflects deeply on the drug abusers in the world and also reflects on the bands previous drug use. we know that he is abusing drugs because he opens his box after he has re tied it up. after he opens it you see his chair lift up with him on it and this is him getting high.
the grim outlook on the video and the dark scenery creates an almost weird and surreal video. also the creepy and odd characters in the video create a sense of oddness and help the viewer to understand what he is going through.
the fact that you see the band members in the video helps people to understand what the band is like and what they were like.
the video is constantly swapping scenes and characters and shows you what is happening however it does this in an unconventional sense and changes randomly. also the fact of using plasticine creates an eary and weird layout and location, this also helps them to get any shot they want and have anything they want in the video.

lyrics
i asked the band to send me the lyrics and they did.
here they are .....
The lyrics to My Neighbour's House are:
My neighbour's house is burning down
And I cannot say why
Ten million angry mouthless tongues
All lapping at the sky
My neighbour's house is burning down
And soon will mine be too
For the wind is slowly turning
And there's nothing I can do
So I don't do a thing
I just stand there and grin
Like I'm one of the idiots
My neighbour's house is burning down
I turn the other cheek
Choose not to hear his cries of fear
With masterful tenchnique
My neighbour's house is burning down
And I wish that I could care
I search for some fellow feeling
But I find there's nothing there
Just a sense of relief
That it's him and not me
Who is one of the idiots
If it proves to be some kind of test
Can I say that I gave it my best
If my neighbour cannot be my friend
Then we're both gonna burn in the end
My neighbour's house is burning down (repeat)
If it proves to be some kind of test
Can I say that I gave it my best
If my neighbour cannot be my friend
Then we're both gonna burn in the end

This is the first minutte of our video in animatic form. we didnt put many pictures in our animatic because we are going to have so many small clips inside and in between the main ones. so our animatic is the main gist of our starting minute of our song .
after the first minute the music video completely changes from an indie style video into a more dubstep like video. this is a complete role reversal of the song that we have chosen.

Camera Allocation - Teacher Post
Make sure you discuss and plan your filming times now. You can start filming next week, assuming you have returned your signed camera loan letter.
Cameras can be used in your usual class blocks (just for that hour and a half), in addition groups can book out either one weekend (Fri 16.10 - Mon 9am) or two overnights during the week (excluding Friday night, for example Tuesday 16.10 to Thursday 9am).
There are around 60 music video groups and nowhere near 60 cameras! Book your camera slot as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

today we started to design our pictures for our animatics . dan was out playing rugby so me and will drew them ourselves we only did one minutes worth of our song and that was the most passive part of it.
below is one of our pictures from our animatic .
our animatics didnt take long to draw but they took long to think of the camera angles and the shot types.

Teacher Feedback
The blog is looking good. I really like your idea of lulling the viewer into a false sense of security by starting off with a traditional indie-rock video and then tipping the idea on its head by doing something oppositional to this genre.
You need to make sure that if you are filming in a private venue like a club that you obtain prior permission to film there, if you just show up with a camera they may not let you in with it.
A full shot list is needed on the blog too.
Keep up the good work.

Pitch response
The response to our initial pitch was quite varied as we wer'nt rele settled on any one idea or song at the time. But as i explained about the contrasting video idea and intergrating the gigs into our video people seemed quite positive towards it wich was good. Also as people in our class had not rele heard of dubstep they thought it would be very interesting to see what a dubstep inspired video would be like so i am loomking fioreward to making this video.

Acummulated ideas and inspiration ( Pitch )
Soo our pitch as it stands is....
We will open the video with a classic indie rock vibe and images. Focusing on the instruments and the clothing. Using a variety of close shots such as in both the examples of student videos we have posted. We may decide to change this slightly as we progress as i feel ideas made up on the spot can become an essential part of making a music video. As of yet we are unable to relate the start of the song to the lyrics in anyway as no lyrics are avaliable. But we have taken action and emailed the bluetones via myspace to try get a copy of the lyrics and a music video we could use to help us out.
some initial ideas of location for this opening sequence are
- Lion Yard
- Christs
- The mill pond
- Parkers
- Grantchester meadows
As for the second half of our video we hvae decided to use gigs as one of the aspects of our contrasting video. mainly dubstep as i feel that will give the biggest contrast and greatest effect. When thinking of a venue to shoot at we came up with The junction and fez in cambridge which will provide the perfect atmosphere and feel for our contrasting video.
Props
- Guitar
- Bass
- Drums
- Microphone
- breakable equipment
Mise en scene
- Indie clothing
- Hats
- Mic stand
- Anything else
Shot ideas
- Filming from an underground angle , such as covering a camera in plexi glasss while it is ina hole and filming the performers from a quite unique angle giving our video more variation and depth.
-Traditional Indie Rock video shots. e.g closup of the bands faces feet and band equipment.
-Spinning and tracking shots to show the bands movements
- We were thingking of doing some POV shots which we feel will add to the overeall effect.
- WE were also thinking of doing some extreme closeup shots to focus on main points, or facial expressions.
- We thought we could do a birdseye veiw shot wich we feel will be quite unique.

Inspiration other group videos
Below are a few links to videos i myslef and the group have been inspired by which we hope to take ideas from or develope existing ideas to create our final video.
When starting of the music video and doing the classic indie rock start this video gave me some ideas and some concepts which we may build in or adapt for our video.
Above - P1-01 She's and eyefull on the alley
I like how the closeup shots of the the band during the video gives it a classic indie look which is something we are really looking to do for the start of our video. i also really liked some iof the abstract and unusual touches thay used such as the exit sign scrolling across the screen and the shot which looked as if they were being filmed by CCTV. These abstract ideas are also what we are thinking of doing in the second half of our video. Another thing that struck me were the wide variety and the amazing quality of the shots used. This really inspired me to be imaginative and outgoing when making a shot list and planning the video.
Another video We looked at and thought had similar concepts and ideas as our initial idea was
T2-50 Love killer
This video again had the same sort of Indie rock beginning we were looking to create like the close up of the instruments and the clothing. I feel the way they have done it by splitting the screens is very unique as from what ive seen of the other videos it is very original.

Initial Thoughts and ideas
As i stated earlier the genre of the song is not what we usually listen to. but i feel that we came up with a rather unique and special concept which i feel will create a very succesfull and impressive video. Our idea was to lull the audience into thinking we were making a standard Indierock music video such as using
- Alot of band shots
- Musical instruments shown and played
- Indie clothes, props
Then at a certain point in the song mabe the chourus or just after we are going to completely contrast the video with the song, making a music video more our own and allowing us to draw upon our musical influences and videos to crate a more agresssive pshycadellic feel.
A few music videos that gave us inspiration for the second part of our video were
The Bug- Poison Dart
We liked this video as it was something different very agressive and very pshycadellic looking. Although the video is animated it gave us a few ideas on what to include in our video. Such as mabe integrating some animated action or filming the performer live. The genre of the music is Dubstep and is agressive and slow and we feel that recording some live footage at a gig or concert may be the perfect contradicting footage to the music track we selected, as indie is more fast paced and calm.
While searching for music videos on youtube i came across some live performances of Dubstep artist. The energy and the look of the footage is ideal for what we are going to film.
Digital Mystikz - Haunted ( live at Dour 2008)
DMZ, Loefah, SGT Pokes- Spongebob
Caspa&Rusko - Live at Fabric london
These live dubstep performances i feel will play a big influential role in our contrasting music video. Although it will mean travelling to gigs with the equipment but i feel it is worthwile to obtain the footage.

Song Choice/ Band Info
After much diliberation and changing of our final song choice we eventually settled for My neighbours house by
"The Bluetones"
Overeall we didnt overly like the song as it differed quite alot from our usual music taste, but as a group we felt we could use that to an advantage when making our video. A point i will stress later on in our main pitch.
About the "Bluetones"
The bluetones are an English Indie Rock band formed in Hounslow Greater London in 1994. The band was origionally called Bottlegarden.
